Mondays, pm—pm with Laura Grant In this class, young movers will get to explore all of the dance possibilities available to their bodies, including jumps, turns, going upside down, balancing on one foot, rolling, gliding, and making interesting shapes. We access our ability to move through playful games that are designed to develop their physical strength and coordination, listening comprehension, collaboration skills, attention span, and imagination. They will play with movements and dance concepts as well as plan or arrange their movements. They will create patterns of movement that they informally perform for and then teach their classmates.

Tuesdays, pm—pm with Jody Cassell Spring into exploring through creative dance compositions. An emphasis on proper body alignment and technique will provide the dancers with more possibilities in their dance designs.

Based on the five part lesson plan developed by the renowned Anne Green Gilbert, dancers learn through movement concepts such as place, direction, pathway, focus, rhythms, and relationships. Dancers become skilled with basic Language of Dance motif symbols and they solve both simple and complex movement problems by using various choreographic forms and improvisational structures. Delightfully challenging, expansive, fun, and empowering! Saturdays, am—am with Toya Chinfloo This class is set up to nourish the students love for movement by offering new methods to create, and their dance skills by continuing their overall growth in technique.

The students will be given the opportunity to learn about different modern dance concepts, as well as being introduced to new choreography choices. They will work collaboratively and individually to approach problem solving in dance.

We will focus on what it takes to support the environment of acceptance that of the class and how to respond respectfully to all ideas expressed; including their own. Saturdays, am—pm with Toya Chinfloo Dancers will hone their technical skills in contemporary and modern dance, fusing modern dance technique from Horton, Dunham, and Graham to a range of various popular and cultural recording artists. This class is designed for students to learn, enhance, and challenge known and unknown applications of modern dance. Students will develop skills through warm-up, movement, memory, and whole-body choreography to magnify combinations through space.

This class is great for those who have some dance background and wish to refine full-body integration, flexibility, strength, and technique that moves toward a well-rounded dancer.

Thursdays, pm with Marsha Thomas This class offers a fun and stimulating introduction to ballet. Students will explore ballet technique and learn dance vocabulary in an imaginative and supportive learning environment. Focus, body awareness, self expression and musicality round out this age appropriate dance experience.

Ballet shoes required. Thursdays, pm with Marsha Thomas Students will continue to focus on body awareness, self-expression and musicality while further exploring introductory ballet vocabulary and technique in an imaginative environment. This class will work on familiarity with the traditional ballet class structure, with an emphasis on confidence and enjoyment. This class will focus on learning age-appropriate ballet terminology while developing the musculature to perform traditional ballet combinations with ease.

We will practice ballet and dance terminology while using ballet exercises to improve strength, coordination and grace. The dancers will discuss intrinsically motivating themselves to work hard in all of their classes and the importance of practicing habits of perseverance to continue to grow as dancers and artists.

Mondays, pm with Danielle Segretto This class is for the young dancer that desires a higher level of technique and technical awareness of their movement. It is designed to build on previous ballet and dance knowledge, and also to focus on the correct alignment and kinesiological awareness that can be taught to this age group.

We will evolve basic ballet movements into more challenging steps and concepts, building continued strength and body awareness. Thursdays, —pm with Courtney Owen-Muir Dancers will learn the basic steps of jazz dance including turns, kicks, and leap steps along with popular simple rhythm techniques. This class is designed to introduce jazz movement to the creative mover and start to explore technique. Thursdays, —pm with Courtney Owen-Muir Students will warm up by exploring basic elements of dance and choreography such as shape, rhythm, gesture, and tempo.

Dancers will also learn the fundamental elements of jazz dance; leaps, turns and kicks. This class will build on concepts and techniques learned in Intro to Jazz. Thursdays, —pm with Courtney Owen-Muir This class will build on concepts learned in Jazz Fundamentals to further explore the basic and complex elements of jazz dance. We will explore the idea of using movement for expression and storytelling, as well as how to relate music to movement through learning choreography and combinations.

This contemporary jazz class blends Latin, jazz, ballet, and modern, and challenges students to move big with feeling. Saturdays, am—pm with Jose Velasquez Kids will learn a variety of different movements to help build a solid foundation and develop confidence all while learning about the history along the way. Basic movements from the style of Breaking and Party Dancing will be learned and applied. Saturdays, pm—pm with Jose Velasquez In this class we will dig deeper into the dance and focus on variations and more advanced movement.

The idea of freestyling and what a cypher is introduced and applied at the end of every class. Students are challenged and encouraged to step outside their comfort zones to better prepare them to engage in movement outside of the classroom. They will also be challenged by learning choreography and more intricate patterns of movement.

Students in this class should have a basic understanding and execution of the fundamentals. Saturdays, am—am with Ivy and Britany Burch Prepare to travel the African Diaspora in this energetic and culturally rich dance exploration. Let the rhythms of the drums and movements of the Motherland uplift your soul and jump-start your body. This class combines learning the basic elements of dance with artistic expression. The children dance fast and slow, sharp and smooth, and learn traveling movements as well as movements that stay in one place.

They are introduced to the world of dance, increasing movement skills and self-expression by themselves and in small groups. The children will be given a time and place to express their emotions, thoughts, personalities through movement; as well as create personalized movement through improvisation and collaboration exercises.

The class only has three rules: be safe, be kind and have fun! We will focus on creating more clarity in movement, effort use of time, weight, flow, and space , body shapes, and special relationships. The students will be taught how to keep the dance environment welcoming to all ideas and with that respect for their own dance voice and that of their peers. The class will be a place and time for children to respond verbally and kinesthetically to dance through the introduction of dance vocabulary.
